20 things to Check off your Summer Bucket List

It’s no secret, summer is one of my favorite times of the year! As a teacher it is my time to unwind and let my hair down. The weather is warm, days are longer and freedom can be smelt through the air . To me, summer is best for relaxation. However, I don’t think relaxation necessarily means sitting around and doing nothing. In fact, summer is the perfect time to make a list of things you want to do but wouldn’t have time for throughout the rest of the year – the ultimate summer bucket list.

Here are 20 things to check off your Texas Summer Bucket list:

  1. Go to one of the Four Seasons pool parties. Think swimming under the Houston skyline with live music. Click HERE for their 2019 schedule.

  2. Check out a dynamo game. Sit near the El Batallon, Dynamo supporters group that can be found in the north end of BBVA Stadium. They get rowdy and make the 90 minute game more exciting!

  3. Eat a Snowcone.

  4. Swim in the ocean... or gulf, whichever is closest.

  5. Float the Comal River. Make sure you pack a cooler full of beer and don’t forget a stereo!

  6. Organize that closet of yours!

  1. Do a museum day! I love the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. They have some pretty cool expos.

  2. Watch a show at the Miller Outdoor theater. Get there about an hour prior to showtime to snag a good spot on the hill. This season they have a play featuring one of my childhood favorites, Junie B. Jones. Talk about a throwback!

  3. Eat some watermelon with lime juice spread over it. I swear it will change your life. If you’re adventurous put some chili lime seasoning on it.

  4. Pack a picnic basket and go to Discovery Green for one of their Thursdays Concert Series.

  5. Check out one of your favorite movies at the Roof Top Cinema Club. Read my TIPS before you go!

  6. Indulge in some delicious BBQ. My favorite spot in Houston city limits is Pitt Room ( get the chard green beans and pork ribs, you will not be disappointed).

  1. Go on a bike ride through Terry Hershey Park. It reminds me of being out of town while still in town at the same time.

  2. Stop for a beer at 8th Wonder. Get the Texas Pale Ale! It's my favorite and super refreshing in the Houston summer heat.

  3. Plan a cute pool day / bbq with some of your friends.

  4. Watch the sunset or sun rise if you’re a dare devil at the James Turrell Skyspace at Rice University. Constructed of grass, concrete, stone and composite steel, the structure is equipped with an LED light sequence that projects onto the ceiling and through an aperture in the 72-foot square knife-edge roof during sunrise and at sunset. It is beautiful. Fun Fact: This is where Rich proposed.

  5. Get out of your comfort zone and dance the night away at one of Kinda Super Disco's dance parties. Kinda Super Disco hosts Houston's biggest underground scene. They bring some of the worlds biggest house/techno/electronic DJ's to the city. Catch me on the dance floor or gazing at the talented Micah Simmon's live paintings.

  6. Make a trip down memory lane and do some roll bouncing at the Dairy Ashford Skating rink for Adult Skate night. Adult Skate night is a vibe! Held every Thursday from 8-11PM, you can find some of Houston's best dancers and skaters grooving around the rink.

  1. Bet big at the Heights Bingo Night. Held every Thursday night, Bingo In the Heights allows you to bring a CLEAR tote with your liquor of choice. Also, bring cash! Best of Luck!

  2. Make a trip down memory lane and do some roll bouncing at the Dairy Ashford Skating rink for Adult Skate night. Adult Skate night is a vibe! Held every Thursday from 8-11PM, you can find some of Houston's best dancers and skaters grooving around the rink.

  3. After a long hot summer day, cool off with a SMOOSH cookie ice cream. I like to think of it as joy in the form of a freshly baked cookie and homemade ice cream.

Whatever you do this summer, have fun! Summer is a time to make memories with your love ones. Have fun and stay safe!
