Second Trimester Recap + Q&A

HOW ARE YOU FEELING? ANY SYMPTOMS YOU HAVE HAD?

I feel extremely blessed that for the most part, I have felt great this pregnancy. My energy levels have pretty much stayed the same but I do find myself feeling bouts of tiredness after doing too much. This is definitely to be expected since I am also running around behind a 2 year old.

One unique symptom I have experienced during this trimester has been leg cramps. With RJ I had bad carpal tunnel flare ups that led me to wearing a brace while sleeping. With the leg cramps it lasted about two days and felt like an extreme Charlie Horse. One thing that helped was drinking more water and getting some potassium.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU GAINED?

So with RJ I was definitely way more physically active. I was in the gym most of the pregnancy. However, between work and running behind RJ I just haven't had the energy to hit the gym. But, I do make it my business to walk. I also don't have the best diet but according to my iWatch, I do about 8000-9000 steps a day. This has helped me not gain too much weight. So far, I have gained a total of 9-10 lbs. Since this time my goal for labor is to have a VBAC its imperative that I don't gain too much weight and keep a healthy blood pressure.

WHEN DID YOU REALLY START SHOWING?

It’s really hard to pinpoint a specific week that I started showing, especially since I already had a lil belly. But my jeans stopped buttoning from being really bloated around week 13 & my belly “popped” around week 19 or 20 ! I do think you start to show a little earlier when your in your second or third pregnancy.

WHAT ARE SOME ITEMS YOU HAVE BEEN CRAVING? ANY AVERSIONS?

So the funny thing is I have been craving a lot of the same things I did with RJ, which is definitely SALTY snacks. I was never a big popcorn person but I cant get enough of it lately. With RJ I had a insane craving for hot wings, particularly from Chili's. With this pregnancy I don't have any specific cravings.

DO YOU IDEAS FOR THE NURSERY YET?

Yes! I have a few ideas that are coming together. RJ and the new baby will share a room so I have been looking for inspiration on combining a baby with a toddler. I plan on transitioning RJ to a toddler bed and using the crib for Baby #2. I want to either paint a wall or do wallpaper that is fun for both kids. I am excited to see how things come along.

DO YOU HAVE A NAME PICKED OUT FOR BABY GIRL?

We do! We have actually had a first and middle name picked out for a boy and then were surprised to learn we are having a girl. If it was a boy we planned on naming him Quincy James, after our maternal grandparents. We are still playing with a few names, but I love the name Quinn.

I have quickly learned that every pregnancy is different. So hard to compare the 2, instead spending time just enjoying every moment :)
